Protocol 01

Disinfecting a swatched product: the right method

A "swatched" product has been tested only once. Before shipping, the verified seller follows our ritual, which is communicated when the listing is approved:

Removal of the surface layer. For powders, blushes, and palettes, the fine top layer is scraped off with a clean spatula, revealing a surface that has never been touched.
70% Isopropyl alcohol. A light, even mist over the entire surface. It is the go-to choice for makeup artists; it disinfects without altering the product.
Air drying. At least 10 minutes, laid flat, before putting back in the box. Never rub, never force-dry.

The complete protocol is provided to each verified profile upon validation, accompanied by reference photos.

Protocol 02

Read a batch code and check for freshness

The batch code is the product's identity card: a lot code printed or embossed by the manufacturer that cannot be cleanly forged. For every listing, we check:

The date of manufacture. The batch code is decoded to determine the month and year of production at the manufacturer's facility.
The lingering freshness. Cross-referenced with the PAO (Period After Opening—the little open jar symbol marked "12M") and the average shelf life of the formula.
Consistency. Is the batch code missing, filed off, or inconsistent with the packaging? The listing is rejected—period.

The date displayed in the "Freshness and condition" box on each product page comes from this verification.

Protocol 03

What we always refuse

There are certain products we will never accept, even if they appear to be in perfect condition. The rule is simple:

Any opened product containing water. Liquid foundations and opened jars of cream: water promotes bacterial growth, and no amount of disinfection is sufficient.
Any product in contact with mucous membranes. Mascaras, liquid eyeliners, and opened lip glosses: the risk of eye or lip contamination is too high.
Any expired product or product lacking traceability. Expired best-before date, illegible batch code, questionable origin: rejected before even undergoing expert assessment.

Those products belong in your home, not on BeautySwapp. That’s the rule that ensures "preloved" never means "risky."

Status 01

Brand new and sealed

Never opened, original blister pack. Mandatory for any product containing water or coming into contact with mucous membranes.

Status 02

New, swatched

Test once maximum; disinfection protocol provided. For anhydrous products only: blush, powders, palettes, etc.

Status 03

Very good condition

At least 75% remaining; verified. For perfumes only.
